Overview

Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Actuary, the Director, SRE Business Development & Stakeholder Relations leads the development of the line of business strategy, objectives and budget, as well as developing and implementing action plans required to achieve them.

 

This high-impact role influences MPI’s reputation and stakeholder relationships, with decisions affecting safety, profitability, and risk.

 

As MPI’s primary contact for the trucking industry, the Director ensures effective communication, compliance, and safety. The role demands expertise in risk management, regulations, logistics, fleet safety, and customer service.

 

The Director also collaborates across departments to enhance services, promote a customer-focused culture, and lead strategic initiatives for the trucking sector.

Responsibilities

External Stakeholder Relationship Management & Service   

  • Primary contact and vital link for the trucking industry, building and developing new relationships and strengthening current relationships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, industry stakeholders, including commercial fleets, industry associations, regulatory bodies, and other provincial jurisdictions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to customers and industry stakeholders, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Facilitate effective communication between MPI and the trucking industry, addressing concerns and leading improvements.
  • Represent the corporation at events, including trucking industry seminars/ conferences, charitable fundraisers, and community events.
  • Represent the corporation in discussions with external government agencies on the risk and safety initiative for the trucking industry.

 

Risk & Safety Strategic Planning                                            

  • Collaborate with MPI leaders and the trucking industry to develop and implement a comprehensive trucking industry strategy for all products and services to ensure industry best practices are implemented to positively impact safety for commercial fleets in Manitoba.
  • Advance the development of programming to identify, analyze, and implement continuous improvement processes to reduce risk in commercial fleet operations and MPI.
  • Develop strategies and policies to hold commercial fleets accountable for maintaining fleet safety programs that meet MPI's insurance requirements.
  • Support trucking companies implementing driver training programs, including Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT), Private Vocational Institution (PVI) programs, and driver finishing and mentorship programs (on-the-job evaluation and training) in compliance with legislation and regulations.

 

Internal Stakeholder Relationships                                        

  • Work collaboratively with all areas of the corporation on recommended changes to existing processes and policies to ensure the needs of the trucking industry are considered.
  • Accountable for cost-effective and appropriate delivery of SRE risk and safety initiatives, meeting customer needs and expectations.
  • Support the evolution and development of programs and initiatives for the purpose of mitigating risk to both the corporation and the trucking customer.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in logistics, transportation management or related field.
  • Relevant certifications in transportation safety and compliance are preferred.
  • Additional education and training in leadership and management is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years in the trucking industry, with a focus on fleet safety program oversight and regulatory compliance in a long-haul cross border operation, including:
    • Five years of experience in strategic planning, organizational development, and stakeholder management. 
    • Five years of experience at a senior management level.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of fleet safety management processes and continuous improvement programming.
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in provincial and federal trucking regulations, including safety and compliance standards, and implementation of risk management programming.
  • Excellent customer service skills to effectively address the needs and concerns of industry stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of driver training programs, including MELT, PVI programs, and driver finishing and mentorship programs.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of related legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and business rules. 
  • Strong analytical skills to problem solve and recommend solutions to quickly make accurate decisions that can affect customers and have significant financial impact on the corporation. 
  • Superior negotiation skills in working with key stakeholders and external service providers.
