Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Business Improvement & Architecture, the Business Process Management Lead is responsible for day-to-day coordination, oversight and standardization of the business process management (BPM) function and Lean services offered within the corporation. The BPM Lead will oversee a team of Business Process Analysts and Business Process Architects who are involved in designing, implementing, monitoring, and improving business processes across various departments and functions. The BPM Lead will collaborate with Business Architects to align business processes with the strategic goals and objectives of the corporation, establish shared working models with delivery teams, and execute continuous improvement activities to improve business processes.

 

The BPM Lead will provide people and practice leadership by coordinating & prioritizing work assignments and capacity for the business process team, as well as providing guidance, coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation. The Lead develops and implements strategies to close knowledge gaps & increase team performance to grow the maturity of the BPM team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team planning sessions to plan and monitor full team delivery towards our commitments, oversee backlog of operational work & deliverables.
  • Coordinate and convey priorities to the team, assist with individual team member prioritization and raise risks appropriately.
  • Assist with the development of succession plans that may include cross training and development opportunities.
  • Establish onboarding and upskilling plans for direct reports. Coach and mentor individual team members on BPM & Lean methodologies and leadership skills with the goal of increasing individual competency and practice maturity.
  • Work with the Manager, Business Improvement & Architecture to determine gaps in BPM-related capabilities and determine actions to fill BPM knowledge gaps.
  • Lead & oversee the development of BPM & Lean standards and best practices documentation, such as department playbooks and service catalogues, to align & enhance BPM methods and outputs while maintaining governance on its frameworks and deliverables.
  • Provide advanced subject-matter expertise on BPM & Lean management practices to establish standard tools & techniques leveraged to achieve process standardization and operational efficiencies.
  • Accountable for standardizing, socializing and maintaining the BPM/Lean standard request intake leveraged by Business Owners seeking services, PMO seeking resource allocations, and allied teams seeking additional support.
  • Align the BPM & Lean practice with the corporation’s goals and industry standards, including integration with other allied teams and practices.
  • Coordinate with the Manager, Business Improvement & Architecture to create and maintain a BPM & Lean maturity plan, lead effort to implement and monitor plan progress.
  • Control and maintain overall ownership of the MPI Process Framework, including assignment of process owners, ensuring integrity is maintained with changes.
  • Support and approve the development of new model standards for the Process domain, ensuring alignment with the larger Enterprise Architecture meta model.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent.
  • Certification in Business Process Management or Business Architecture is preferred (CBPA, CBPP, CBA, TOGAF or equivalent).

Experience:

  • Seven years of related experience applying Business Process Management and Lean Six Sigma practices in a corporation of similar size, including:
  • Three years of experience in a leadership role, overseeing a cross-functional team of analysts, architects, lean facilitators or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience participating in complex strategic programs or projects.
  • Experience leading or supporting business process transformation an asset.
  • Experience in an Agile delivery environment is an asset.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of BPM methodologies, tools and best practices with experience implementing in organizations of similar size and complexity.
  • Advanced skills in navigating challenges, overcoming obstacles, solving problems, and aligning diverse stakeholders to execute on desired outcomes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma tools and methodology, Lean enterprise concepts to identify non-value-added elements and activities, application of process improvement and quality tools.
