Overview

As a Road Safety Program Specialist, you will conduct research and analysis of road safety issues, strategies and data including collisions, claims, motor vehicle injuries and fatalities.

 

You are responsible for utilizing road safety issue research, data analysis and research of proven and promising strategies from other jurisdictions, to identify and recommend initiatives to mitigate road safety issues relevant in the Manitoba context. You will leverage this research and analysis to develop new road safety programs and enhance existing programs, with the focus on reducing human toll, social costs and claims costs, while supporting Manitoba Public Insurance’s (MPI) road safety mandate.

 

The Road Safety Program Specialist also collaborates with internal stakeholders. You will work with other departments to inform the design of new community programs and provide both consultation and recommendations for external messaging and best practices in road safety communications. You will work with other departments within the Corporation to help inform strategies and programs related to managing high-risk and medically-at-risk drivers. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough analysis of traffic collision data, claims data, and relevant data produced by internal and external partners and agencies, to identify road safety priorities.
  • Researches emerging education, awareness, and technology-based approaches and solutions to address complex road safety issues. This includes strategies, approaches, and initiatives used in other jurisdictions as well as technical and behavioural elements of road safety and the laws affecting the design and use of motor vehicles and the enforcement of relevant laws.
  • Designs and develops road safety programs, including conducting research and providing perspectives regarding evaluation criteria used in other jurisdictions to measure program effectiveness.
  • Develops and delivers programs and initiatives to address the Corporation’s road safety priorities.
  • Leads and implements studies and/or projects including coordinating of project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and action items, as required.
  • Performs quality reviews of program/project requirements to ensure they are specific, measurable, achievable and relevant.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with MPI departments and external stakeholder agencies (i.e. law enforcement officials, high profile road safety stakeholders, advocacy groups, government departments, schools, municipalities, and key road safety partners) to ensure their participation and engagement in the development of programs.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Business Administration or related discipline.
  • Five years of progressive experience, including two years in completing research, analysis, program design, and/or program evaluation.

Or 

  • Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related discipline.
  • Three years of progressive experience, including two years in completing research, analysis, program design, and/or program evaluation.
